Family Eye Care Center

EYE EXAMS

We provide quality, primary eye care for your entire family at Modern Focus Eyecare. Maintaining sound eye health requires preventive and routine eye exams. Many eye vision disorders have no evident symptoms or indicators, but a qualified optometrist can quickly diagnose them. Our optometrist can provide treatment choices and, in many cases, prevent vision loss by recognizing eye vision disorders early on.

Eye Exams

Modern Focus offers comprehensive eye exams and pediatric eye exams suitable for children. We’ve got you covered, from annual examinations to preventive disease screening and disease management. Our team comprises highly experienced eye care experts who use state-of-the-art tools to evaluate your vision for eye diseases and other health problems, including Lupus, High blood pressure, High cholesterol, Diabetes, Glaucoma, and Macular degeneration. Apart from in-person visits, we also offer Virtual Visits, which have proven invaluable to the Waxahachie community during the pandemic.

Diabetic Eye Exams

Diabetic eye exams are crucial for individuals with diabetes to ensure their eyes remain healthy. Diabetes causes changes in the blood vessels of the retina, often resulting in vision loss if left untreated. At Modern Focus Eyecare, our optometrist can perform a comprehensive eye exam to detect any changes in your eyes caused by diabetes.

Tests

While we conduct various tests during a comprehensive eye exam, the whole process lasts 30 minutes to an hour to complete. The tests cover:

  • Visual Acuity - Measures the sharpness of your eyesight
  • Visual Field - Checks your peripheral vision for blind spots
  • Pupillary Reactions - Checks how your pupils react to close objects and light sources
  • Cover Test - Checks how your eyes coordinate together
  • Extraocular Muscle Function - Checks to establish if you have regular eye movements
  • Retinoscopy - Seeks to verify the best lenses should you need prescription eyeglasses

Other Services we offer:

  • Myopia eye exam
  • Dry eye exams
  • Dry eye test

You should get a complete eye exam every 1–3 years to ensure good eye and overall health. Your age, risk factors, and physical condition influence the frequency of exams.

Children

  • Eye exams for children are ideal at six months, age three, and the start of school. We see children aged five and up.
  • Without adverse vision conditions or risk factors for eye or vision disorders, we recommend eye exams at least every two years throughout their school years.
  • More frequent examinations are ideal for those with vision problems or risk factors such as premature birth, turned or crossed eyes, family history of eye disease, developmental delays, eye injury, and other physical illnesses or diseases.
  • Yearly examinations are suitable for children who use eyeglasses or contacts.

Adults

  • Eye exams are necessary every two to three years up to 40, depending on your visual change and overall health.
  • More frequent examinations are suitable for adults with diabetes, high blood pressure, and other disorders.
  • Those over 40 should have their eyes examined every one to two years for age-related eye issues such as presbyopia, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
  • Annual examinations are for those over 60 due to the increased risk of eye disease.
  • Annual exams are also beneficial for adults who wear eyeglasses or contacts.
